I have recently discovered that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, as regular readers of this blog will know breast cancer is a cause which is close to my heart. I discovered “Boobie-Thon” by reading Emma’s blog and thought that with my family medical history you guys wouldn’t mind me giving it a mention.

Although Boobie-Thon appears to be an American thing to have started with, the wonders of the web have made it a global thing now, and in my opinion it doesn’t matter where the research is done – the sooner we find a way to beat it the better.

“In 2007, an estimated 178,480 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed among women, as well as an estimated 62,030 additional cases of in situ breast cancer.” (Breast Cancer facts and figures 2007-08, American Cancer Society)

“In 2007, about 2,030 cases of breast cancer are expected to occur among men, accounting for about 1% of all breast cancers. Approximately 450 men will die from breast cancer.” (Breast Cancer facts and figures 2007-08, American Cancer Society)

So there you have it, October is not only the month to raise awareness but also to raise money!

Thank you for your time.
